10 injured in mass shooting in Florida: police

LAKELAND, Florida — Ten people were injured in a mass shooting in Florida, the Lakeland Police Department said on Monday.

According to police, two of the victims are in critical condition, eight injuries are not life-threatening.

“One is in the surgery ward and the other is either in the surgery ward or on its way to the surgery ward,” Lakeland Police Chief Sam Taylor said at a news conference on Monday.

Police responded to reports of shootings near Iowa Avenue North and Plum Street at 3:43 p.m.

All of the victims were adult males between the ages of 20 and 35, Taylor said.

Lakeland police have not identified any suspects but believe the four alleged shooters fired on both sides of the street from their vehicle, which Taylor described as a four-door Nissan.

Police believe the shooting was not accidental and the victims were targeted.

We don’t believe there is any reason the public should be worried right now,” Taylor said. “We think the people in the car were shooting and shooting at whoever they wanted to shoot.”

Authorities added that they found marijuana at the scene, hinting that marijuana was being sold at the time of the incident, but there is no information on whether the alleged sale of marijuana and the shooting are related.

This is an evolving story. Please stay tuned for updates.
